What qualities, traits and background should you have when applying to be a nanny?
Nannies must be patient, responsible, trustworthy, and of course, they must love children. In fact, their love of children must be so great that they find immense satisfaction from the rigors of taking care of children day-in and day-out. Being a nanny is not an easy job, so feeling a sense of fulfillment is extremely important.
Because taking care of someone else's children can be a demanding job, an important quality for a nanny to have is positivity. Without this, it is easy to get bogged down by the latest runny nose or mess after a meal. Being positive is a good way to maintain your commitment to your job, and it is also a good example for the children you are caring for.
If you have a background in Early Childhood Education, it is a bonus but not a must. Every family has different qualities they are looking for in a nanny (except for the basics, which remain the same), so some will want a nanny with a background in education and others won't. The important thing is that you have experience with children, and that you can relate to them in a kind, responsible way.
